Nel 1978 l’amministratore delegato della FIAT incarica Renzo Piano e Peter Rice di
creare una vettura sperimentale che ridefinisse il futuro dell’industria automobilistica.
Per sviluppare la FIAT VSS (Vettura Sperimentale a
Sottosistemi) fu creato a Moncalieri – Torino – Italia, il centro di ricerca I-DE-A
(Institute of Development in Automotive Engineering) amministrato dal car-designer
Franco Mantegazza, diretto da Renzo Piano e come vice presidente Peter Rice.
La VSS , introduce il concetto di “Space Frame”,
un’innovazione ingegneristica che avrebbe segnato il
futuro dell’industria automobilistica.
In 1978, the CEO of FIAT commissioned Renzo Piano and Peter Rice to create an
experimental car that would redefine the future of the automotive industry.
To develop the FIAT VSS (Experimental Subsystems Vehicle), the I-DE-A (Institute of
Development in Automotive Engineering) research center was created in
Moncalieri – Turin – Italy, managed by the car-designer Franco Mantegazza, directed
by Renzo Piano and as vice president Peter Rice.
